In 1935 Beckomberga mental hospital was the largest psychiatric institution in Europe. It is now a high-end apartment complex, and little of its dark and complex past remains. Stockholm Beckomberga is a documentation of this unique and forgotten part of Swedish history and an exploration into how we repurpose the environment around us.
It consists of a reconstruction of Beckomberga as an installation in VR social platform AltspaceVR and a temporary, immersive theatre performance that takes place in the same environment. The installation allows you to walk through Beckomberga, exploring its unique architecture and grounds. In the immersive performance you engage and interact with the people who once occupied the institution.
Stockholms Beckomberga was featured at the FMX conference in Stuttgart, in 2019.
